Background: Making an accurate clinical diagnosis in a patient with a voice problem can be very challenging. We hereby describe in detail how a structured assessment by both a dedicated speech therapist and a laryngologist, including systematic history, subjective and objective voice analysis, and videolaryngostroboscopy, leads to a thorough and evidence-based approach.
Methods: By prospectively storing all generated data, including patient-reported outcomes, objective and subjective voice analysis, standardized auditory recordings, videolaryngostroboscopy video images, and a resulting standardized diagnosis, a prospective structured database has been formed.
Results: Descriptive data about the voice characteristics of the included patients are presented.
Conclusion: A structured approach to evaluate a voice disorder is presented, enabling the building of a prospective registry and the performance of evidence-based research.
