A new oxidative stress marker in patients with nasal polyposis: advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP). Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine whether levels of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) can be used a marker of oxidative stress in the etiology of nasal polyposis.

Materials and methods: Twenty-four patients diagnosed with nasal polyposis in Haseki Education and Research Hospital ENT Department between March and June 2008 were included in the study. The AOPP serum levels in NP patients and 24 healthy controls were measured with spectrophotometry and the results were compared statistically. Results: AOPP levels were significantly higher in the study group compared with the control group.

Conclusion: Our findings suggest that AOPP levels can be used as a marker of oxidative stress in patients with nasal polyposis. Future studies are neccessary to evaluate the efficacy of antioxidant therapy.
